Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Foam is a treatment for hereditary hair loss in men. It is scientifically proven to help stop and even reverse hereditary hair loss.

Minoxidil is an active ingredient in Regaine for Men. It is thought to work by increasing the blood flow to the hair follicles in the scalp. It should only be used for those who are 18-49 years old. More specifically, the most significant results will be seen in those of a younger age, or those who have less severe hair loss. For those who have been bold for a long period of time, it is unlikely to see any benefits from this treatment.

For best results, please refer to the patient information leaflet.

The instructions for use as told by the manufacturer, is as follows:

1. Ensure you wash your hands before applying the foam
2. Part your hair to expose your scalp, making sure your scalp is dry. If you use a comb, make sure it’s got rounded, widely spaced teeth
3. Hold the can upside down and press the nozzle to dispense the topical foam: about half a capful. Always use the recommended 1g dose
4. Rub the foam into your scalp and gently massage it throughout the affected area. Wash your hands and you’re done

You should not exceed 2g of the foam each day, results normally takes up to 8 weeks

What is Hair Loss?

Hair loss is best described as the excessive loss of hair, causing either noticeable bald patches (sometimes smaller one), a receding hairline and/or thinning of hair. Everyone on average tends to lose around 50 - 100 hairs per day, however, this process of losing 50 - 100 hairs a day without noticing can get to the point where the amount of hair you're losing exceeds the amount you are growing, it could also get to a point where there just isn’t any hair being replenished.

What causes Hair Loss?

Male pattern baldness is what causes hair loss most of the time. Hair loss is hereditary and is very common in men all over the world. The name “Male pattern baldness” comes from the fact that hair loss seems to follow a similar pattern in men, you begin to lose hair at the roof of your head and front of the scalp.

Another widely known cause of hair loss is alopecia areata. This causes the hair to fall out at an irregular rate and in an irregular pattern. Either condition ultimately means that male hair follicles are becoming/have become overly sensitive to a male sex hormone. If men have more receptors to these hormones, it weakens their hair follicles until they shrink and stop growing hair, this is how male pattern baldness occurs.

How can I manage Hair Loss?

Macmillan Cancer Support have listed some practical help tips for hair loss, suitable for all hair types. These include washing your hair at least once every two days to help with hair loss, not washing your hair can cause problems and won’t prevent hair loss. Being careful with the way you style your hair to help with hair loss, for example avoiding using heat appliances. Caring for your skin to encourage regrowth by caring for the parts that have lost hair such as the head.
