Benadryl Allergy Children's Oral Solution is a liquid antihistamine for allergy symptoms in children, containing cetirizine hydrochloride. It eases sneezing, a runny nose, itchy or watery eyes and an itchy throat or nose, and the liquid form makes it easy to give an accurate dose to a child who cannot yet swallow tablets.

How it works

When a child meets something they are allergic to, the body releases histamine, and histamine is what causes the sneezing, itching, streaming nose and watering eyes. Cetirizine is a second generation antihistamine that blocks the receptors histamine acts on, so the signal does not land. Second generation means very little crosses into the brain, which is why it causes far less drowsiness than older antihistamines, and that matters for a child at school.

How to use it

Shake the bottle and measure the dose with the device supplied, following the pack for your child's age, and do not exceed the stated number of doses in 24 hours. Through a pollen season, giving it regularly rather than only on bad days generally gives steadier control. It can be given with or without food.
