Combodart 0.5mg/0.4mg Capsules contain a synergistic combination of two active ingredients: dutasteride and tamsulosin. These ingredients work in tandem to address specific conditions related to the prostate gland, offering a comprehensive approach to treatment.
Dutasteride:
Dutasteride, present at a dosage of 0.5mg in each capsule, is a synthetic 4-azasteroid compound. It functions as a dual inhibitor of the 5α-reductase enzyme, specifically Type I and Type II isoforms. By inhibiting this enzyme, dutasteride effectively reduces the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a potent androgen that contributes to the enlargement of the prostate gland in conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The inhibition of DHT production helps mitigate prostate enlargement, subsequently alleviating associated urinary symptoms.
Tamsulosin:
Tamsulosin, found at a dosage of 0.4mg in each capsule, is an alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonist. It acts selectively on alpha1A and alpha1D receptors primarily located in the prostate gland, prostatic capsule, and bladder neck. By blocking these receptors, tamsulosin relaxes the smooth muscle within these areas. This relaxation results in improved urinary flow and reduced obstruction, which commonly occurs due to prostate enlargement. Tamsulosin's action aids in relieving lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with conditions like BPH.

As with any medication, Combodart may cause side effects in some individuals. Common side effects may include impotence, decreased sex drive, difficulty with ejaculation, breast enlargement, and dizziness. While most side effects are mild and temporary, it's important to contact your doctor if you experience any unusual or severe symptoms. Serious side effects are rare but may include heart failure, low blood pressure, skin reactions, and more.
