Wegovy is an MHRA licensed weight management treatment for adults in the UK. It contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Ozempic, made by Novo Nordisk, but at higher doses and licensed specifically for weight loss rather than type 2 diabetes. In clinical trials, patients on the 25mg maintenance dose lost an average of around 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks alongside a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. Wegovy is now available as a once-daily tablet offering the proven benefits of semaglutide without the need for injections.

Is Wegovy right for you?
Wegovy tablets are licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above if you also have a weight related condition such as type 2 diabetes, raised blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea. It works alongside lifestyle changes rather than instead of them, so you'll need to commit to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity to get the best from it. Our clinicians check your eligibility as part of your consultation.

How it works
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which means it mimics one of the natural gut hormones your body releases after eating. By activating the GLP-1 receptor, it reduces your appetite, slows how quickly your stomach empties, and helps you feel full sooner and for longer. The result is fewer cravings and smaller portions feeling enough, which makes the lifestyle side of weight loss much more manageable.

Your dosing schedule
You'll start on a low dose so your body has time to adjust, and the dose increases gradually over the first few months. The standard schedule starts at 1.5mg once daily for the first 30 days, then increases to 4mg, then 9mg, and finally 25mg as your ongoing maintenance dose. Each step lasts around 30 days. Your clinician may slow this down if you're struggling with side effects, or keep you on a lower dose if it's working well for you.

How to take the tablet
The tablet should be taken once daily in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before your first food, drink, or other oral medication of the day. Take it with a small glass of water (no more than 120ml). Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.

What the clinical evidence shows
Wegovy tablets have been studied in the OASIS clinical trial programme. Patients on the 25mg maintenance dose lost an average of around 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks. More than eight in ten participants lost at least 5% of their starting weight, and many also saw improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar control.

Your treatment with Rightangled
We're a regulated UK pharmacy and prescribing service, which means every Wegovy prescription is reviewed by one of our GMC registered clinicians, not by an algorithm. Most assessments are reviewed the same day. Your medication is dispensed from our GPhC registered pharmacy and arrives in discreet packaging. Our clinical team is available throughout your treatment if anything comes up.

What to expect from side effects
The most common side effects are digestive: nausea, mild diarrhoea, constipation, and occasional vomiting. They're usually mild, tend to settle within a few weeks, and are most noticeable just after a dose increase. Eating smaller meals more often, easing off rich and fatty foods, and staying well hydrated makes a real difference for most patients.

When Wegovy isn't suitable
Wegovy isn't right for everyone. You shouldn't take it if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy in the next two months, or if you've had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide. It also isn't suitable if you have severe gastrointestinal disease, a history of pancreatitis, or if you're already on a similar medication such as Ozempic, Saxenda, or another GLP-1. Our clinicians review your full medical history during your consultation to make sure it's safe for you.

This service is provided by Rightangled in partnership with Medetone pharmacy, regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Care Quality Commission. Wegovy® is a registered trademark of Novo Nordisk A/S.

Directions

Wegovy tablets are taken once daily, every morning, on an empty stomach. Take your tablet at least 30 minutes before your first food, drink, or any other oral medication of the day. Swallow it whole with a small glass of still water no more than 120ml. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet, as this affects how the medication is absorbed.

The tablet works best when taken consistently at the same time each morning. If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next tablet the following morning as usual. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed one.

Wegovy tablets do not need to be refrigerated. Store them at room temperature, below 30°C, in the original packaging and away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep them out of reach of children.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Wegovy tablets is semaglutide, a synthetic version of a natural gut hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). Your body releases GLP-1 whenever you eat, and it plays a key role in how hungry you feel, how full you feel after a meal, and how your blood sugar is regulated. Semaglutide activates the same GLP-1 receptors that your natural hormone would, but it stays in the body for much longer.

Each tablet also contains SNAC (sodium N-[8-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) aminocaprylate]), which helps the semaglutide absorb through the stomach lining when taken on an empty stomach. The result is reduced hunger, slower stomach emptying after meals, and a stronger sense of fullness all of which make it easier to eat less without feeling deprived.

Side Effects

Most people get on well with Wegovy tablets, especially if they follow the gradual dose schedule. Side effects are usually mild to moderate and tend to ease off within a few weeks as your body adjusts.

The most common side effects (more than 1 in 10 people) are digestive: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, abdominal pain, and a reduced appetite (which is partly the point of the medication). They’re most noticeable just after a dose increase and usually settle down within a week or two.

Less commonly (up to 1 in 10 people), some patients experience tiredness, dizziness, headaches, indigestion, bloating, gallstones, or hair loss. Low blood sugar can occur, particularly if you’re already on diabetes medication.

Serious side effects are rare but worth knowing about. Pancreatitis can cause severe stomach pain that may radiate to your back, and it needs urgent medical attention. Gallbladder issues sometimes occur, particularly with rapid weight loss. Severe allergic reactions and kidney problems are also possible. Very rarely, sudden visual disturbances or vision loss in one eye have been reported. If this happens, stop the tablet and seek urgent medical advice straight away.

A few practical tips help with the most common side effects. Eat smaller meals more often, ease off rich and fatty foods, and stay well hydrated, especially if you’ve had any diarrhoea. If side effects feel severe or aren’t improving, get in touch with your Rightangled clinician. Don’t stop treatment suddenly without speaking to us first.

Warnings

Wegovy tablets aren’t suitable for everyone, and there are some situations where they shouldn’t be used at all. You shouldn’t take them if you’ve previously had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide, if you’re pregnant, while trying for a baby, or while breastfeeding. If you’re planning a pregnancy, you’ll need to stop Wegovy at least two months beforehand to allow it to clear from your system.

There are also conditions where Wegovy can be used, but you’ll need to mention them in your consultation so we can prescribe safely. These include any history of pancreatitis, severe stomach emptying problems (gastroparesis), inflammatory bowel disease, diabetic eye disease, kidney or liver problems, gallstones, current use of insulin or other diabetes medications, an eating disorder, mental health conditions including depression, or any planned surgery in the near future.

You shouldn’t combine Wegovy with other GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Saxenda, Victoza, or Mounjaro. Wegovy tablets can affect the absorption of other oral medications. If you take any daily oral medication, speak to your clinician as timing and dosing may need to be reviewed.

It’s sensible to be cautious with alcohol while you’re on Wegovy it can make low blood sugar more likely and tends to worsen any nausea. Until you know how Wegovy affects you, take care driving or operating machinery, especially during the first few weeks and after each dose increase. Throughout your treatment, your Rightangled clinician will keep an eye on how you’re getting on. Get in touch straight away if you notice severe stomach pain, sudden vision changes, or signs of an allergic reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

How quickly do Wegovy tablets work for weight loss?

Most patients notice their appetite changing within the first few weeks, even on the starting 1.5mg dose. Real, measurable weight loss tends to follow soon after, and it picks up pace as you move through the dose increases. Expect modest changes in the first month while your body is adjusting, with steadier weight loss building from months two and three as you move up to 4mg and 9mg. Most patients see the bulk of their results once they reach the 25mg maintenance dose. In clinical trials, patients on the maintenance dose lost an average of around 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks. That said, every patient is different. How quickly you lose weight depends on your starting weight, how closely you stick to the diet and activity changes, and how your body responds to the dose. Consistency matters far more than chasing a particular number on the scale.

Do I need a prescription for Wegovy tablets in the UK?

Yes. Wegovy tablets are a prescription only medicine in the UK, regulated by the MHRA, which means they can only be supplied after a proper clinical assessment by a registered prescriber. With Rightangled, the process is straightforward. You complete a short online consultation (around five to ten minutes), one of our GMC registered clinicians reviews your answers (usually the same day), and if Wegovy is suitable for you we issue your prescription and dispatch it from our GPhC registered pharmacy with next day delivery available. Be wary of any website offering Wegovy without a proper consultation. These are often unregulated, sometimes selling counterfeit products, and they’re a real safety risk.

How do I take the Wegovy tablet and is it easy?

Wegovy tablets are straightforward to take. Each morning, before eating or drinking anything, swallow one tablet whole with a small glass of water (no more than 120ml). Wait at least 30 minutes before having your first food, drink, or other medication of the day. This fasting window is important — it gives the tablet time to absorb properly through the stomach lining. Most patients find it easy to build into their morning routine. Set a daily reminder on your phone if it helps, and keep your tablets somewhere visible. Unlike the injection, there are no pens, needles, or sharps bins to manage.

How should I store Wegovy tablets?

Wegovy tablets are much simpler to store than the injection — they do not need to be refrigerated. Keep them at room temperature, below 30°C, in the original blister packaging and away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not store them in the bathroom or near a heat source. Each pack contains 30 tablets, which is a one-month supply. Check the expiry date on the packaging before use. If you’re travelling, Wegovy tablets are easy to take with you — no cool bag or fridge access needed. Just keep them in their original packaging, out of direct sunlight, and away from excessive heat.
