Description

Nystatin Oral Suspension is a highly effective, scientifically proven anti-fungal medication. It utilizes Nystatin, a powerful active ingredient that fights against fungal infections, providing relief and promoting healing. With its advanced formula, Nystatin Oral Suspension is the top choice for treating and preventing fungal infections.

Directions

Adults: place 1 ml of suspension in the mouth four times a day. Hold it in contact with the affected areas for as long as possible before swallowing. Continue for at least 48 hours after symptoms have cleared. Children and infants: 1 ml dropped into the mouth four times a day. For newborn prophylaxis: 1 ml once daily. Use the graduated syringe provided to measure the dose.

Ingredients

Each ml contains nystatin 100,000 units as the active ingredient. Other ingredients include sucrose, ethanol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), and flavouring. Contains sucrose and small amounts of alcohol.

Side Effects

Generally well tolerated. Rarely, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea may occur, usually only at very high doses. Allergic reactions such as rash or itching are very rare. If any side effects occur, speak to a clinician.

Warnings

Do not use if allergic to nystatin or any of the other ingredients. Not for treating fungal infections of the blood, lungs or skin. Contains sucrose, so patients with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take it. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a clinician before use.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Should I just swallow it straight away?

For oral thrush, hold the suspension in your mouth for as long as you can before swallowing. The longer it stays in contact with the affected areas, the better it works. Placing half the dose in each side of the mouth helps it reach more of the affected area.

Can I stop taking it once my symptoms clear up?

No. Continue for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have gone to reduce the chance of the infection returning. If your symptoms have not improved or have worsened after 14 days, speak to a clinician.

Will it treat a fungal infection elsewhere in the body?

No. Nystatin oral suspension is for infections of the mouth, throat and gut only. It is not absorbed into the bloodstream in any meaningful amount and will not treat systemic (whole-body) or skin fungal infections.

Does it contain sugar, and does that matter?

Most nystatin suspensions contain sucrose. If you have diabetes or wear dentures, be aware of this and discuss it with our pharmacy team at info@rightangled.com. Denture wearers should also clean and maintain their dentures properly during treatment.
