Medication details

Description

Lansoprazole Capsules are designed to provide long-lasting relief from acid-related conditions such as heartburn, acid reflux, and stomach ulcers. As a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), this medication works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, helping to ease discomfort, promote healing, and prevent further irritation. Whether you suffer from frequent acid reflux or need treatment for a stomach ulcer, Lansoprazole Capsules offer a clinically proven solution.

Always follow medical advice for safe and effective use. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider.

Directions

For the best results, take Lansoprazole Capsules exactly as directed. The usual dose is once daily before a meal, preferably in the morning. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water—do not crush or chew it. If you have trouble swallowing, some brands allow you to open the capsule and mix the granules with a small amount of soft food or juice. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions regarding dosage and duration of use.

Ingredients

Each capsule contains the active ingredient lansoprazole, which belongs to the proton pump inhibitor class of medications. Additional inactive ingredients may vary depending on the brand but typically include substances that aid in capsule formulation and absorption. If you have specific allergies or dietary restrictions, check the ingredient list on the packaging or consult your pharmacist.

Side Effects

As with any medication, Lansoprazole may cause some side effects, although not everyone experiences them. The most common side effects include headaches, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach pain. Some people may also experience dizziness or dry mouth. Long-term use may lead to more serious effects, such as low magnesium levels or an increased risk of bone fractures. If you experience severe symptoms like persistent stomach pain, unexplained weight loss, or difficulty swallowing, seek medical advice immediately.

Warnings

Before taking Lansoprazole, there are a few important precautions to consider. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to lansoprazole or other proton pump inhibitors. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medications, consult your doctor before use. Long-term use can affect nutrient absorption, so speak with your healthcare provider if you require prolonged treatment. If your symptoms persist or worsen after two weeks, seek medical advice.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is lansoprazole a good option if I take clopidogrel?

Lansoprazole is generally one of the preferred acid-reducing medicines for people taking clopidogrel, as it is less likely than some others to interfere with how clopidogrel works. Even so, always tell our pharmacy team at info@rightangled.com about all your medicines so the right choice can be confirmed for you.

What if I struggle to swallow the capsule?

Some lansoprazole formulations can be opened and the granules taken in a little soft food or juice, or there are orodispersible versions that melt on the tongue. The granules should not be chewed. Check which formulation you have, or ask our pharmacy team for guidance.

Can it affect magnesium levels or bones with long use?

Prolonged use of this type of medicine has been linked to low magnesium levels and a small increase in fracture risk. These matter mainly with extended use, which is why long courses should be reviewed rather than continued indefinitely without assessment.

Does it interact with HIV medicines?

Lansoprazole can reduce the absorption of some HIV medicines, such as atazanavir, by lowering stomach acid. If you take any antiviral medicines, tell our pharmacy team at info@rightangled.com before starting.
