FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

How long does lactulose take to work?

It usually takes two to three days before the full effect is felt. This is normal and does not mean it is not working. Do not increase the dose in that time; give it a chance to take effect.

Should I hold it in my mouth or swallow it straight away?

Swallow each dose promptly. Lactulose contains sugars, and keeping it in the mouth for an extended time can contribute to tooth decay, particularly with long-term use.

Is lactulose safe if I have diabetes?

It contains small amounts of lactose and galactose. At normal doses this is usually manageable, but if you are being treated for hepatic encephalopathy the dose is higher and the sugar content becomes more significant. Discuss with our pharmacy team at info@rightangled.com if you are unsure.

Is there anyone who should not take lactulose?

It must not be taken by people with a rare condition called galactosaemia, or by anyone with a blockage in the gut other than normal constipation. If you are unsure whether it is suitable, check with our pharmacy team at info@rightangled.com.
