Description

Brolene 0.1% Eye Drops

Brolene Eye Drops are used for minor eye infections, including bacterial conjunctivitis, commonly called pink eye. The active ingredient is propamidine isetionate, an antimicrobial that reduces the bacteria behind the redness, discharge, itching and discomfort.

How it works

Propamidine isetionate is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria on the surface of the eye and along the lid margin. Lowering the bacterial load allows the inflammation to settle, which is what reduces the redness, stickiness and gritty feeling. It is an antiseptic type treatment rather than an antibiotic, which is why it is aimed at minor, uncomplicated infections.

How to use it

Wash your hands, tilt your head back and pull the lower lid down gently. Instil one drop into the pocket formed and blink to spread it, then repeat in the other eye if both are affected. Use as directed and complete the stated course. Do not let the nozzle touch the eye, use a separate towel from everyone else in the house, and discard the bottle after the period stated once opened.

Who it is for

It is for adults and children as stated on the pack with a minor eye infection. It is not suitable for anyone sensitive to the ingredients, and contact lenses should be left out during treatment unless a pharmacist advises otherwise.

See an optometrist, GP or urgent care the same day for eye pain rather than discomfort, marked light sensitivity, blurred or reduced vision, a wound or chemical splash, an eye that is very red with thick discharge, symptoms in a baby, or any eye problem in a contact lens wearer or someone who has had recent eye surgery.
