Description

Bonjela Teething Gel 15ml

Bonjela Teething Gel is used to soothe the discomfort of teething in babies and young children at the ages stated on the pack. Teething is a normal stage of development as the first teeth come through the gums, but it can leave a baby restless and uncomfortable, and the gel is applied directly to the sore gum.

How it works

The gel is applied to the gum, where it has a mild antiseptic action and provides a soothing effect on the sore area. Products intended for babies are formulated differently from those for adults; in particular, teething products for young children should be salicylate free, since salicylates are not recommended in this age group. Check the ingredients printed on your pack and ask a pharmacist if anything is unclear.

How to use it

Wash your hands, then apply a small amount to the affected gum with a clean fingertip, following the pack for the amount, the frequency and the maximum in 24 hours. Do not exceed it. Non medicated measures are worth trying first and alongside: a chilled, not frozen, teething ring, something firm to chew on, and gentle pressure on the gum with a clean finger. Many babies need nothing more than these.

Who it is for

It is for babies and young children at the ages printed on the pack. Check the minimum age carefully and ask a pharmacist if your baby is younger than that, or if you are unsure which teething product is appropriate, since they differ in what they contain.

Safety and when to get advice

Teething does not cause a high temperature, diarrhoea or a baby who seems genuinely unwell. If any of those are present, something else is going on and your baby should be seen rather than treated for teething. Contact a doctor urgently for a high temperature, unusual drowsiness, poor feeding, fewer wet nappies, difficulty breathing, or a rash that does not fade under pressure. Our UK pharmacy team can answer questions about this product before you buy.

Common questions

From what age can it be used?
Check the pack for the minimum age, and ask a pharmacist if your baby is younger.

Does teething cause a fever?
No. A high temperature means your baby should be assessed rather than treated for teething.

Is it the same as the adult Bonjela?
No. The adult gel contains a salicylate and is not for children. They are different products.

Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with the pack before use.

Directions

Using Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel is straightforward and safe. Follow these simple steps to provide your baby with much-needed comfort:

- Clean Hands: Wash your hands thoroughly before application to ensure hygiene.

- Dosage: Squeeze a small amount of Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel onto a clean fingertip or cotton swab. A pea-sized amount is typically suitable.

- Application: Gently rub the gel onto your baby's gums using your fingertip or cotton swab. Apply with a light touch to avoid discomfort.

- Frequency: You can use the gel as needed, up to six times a day, as long as each application is at least three hours apart.

- Avoid Ingestion: Be cautious to prevent your baby from swallowing the gel during application. Keep a close eye on them afterward.

Ingredients

Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel contains carefully selected active and inactive ingredients to provide relief from teething discomfort. The active ingredient, Choline Salicylate, possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe sore gums. The gel's formulation also includes other ingredients such as Cetalkonium Chloride, Ethanol, and menthol, which contribute to its overall soothing effect.

Side Effects

While Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel is generally well-tolerated, there is a possibility of side effects, albeit rare. Potential side effects may include:

- Allergic Reactions: Some babies may exhibit sensitivity to certain components in the gel. If you observe any signs of an allergic reaction, such as redness, swelling, or itching, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

- Mild Irritation: In rare instances, the gel may cause mild irritation at the application site. If this occurs, cease use and seek guidance from a healthcare provider.

- Numbing Sensation: Due to the presence of Choline Salicylate, the gel may induce a temporary numbing sensation. This is expected and will diminish over time.

Warnings

While Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel is designed to provide relief, it's important to consider the following warnings:
