Welcome to one of our Rightangled Test Explainers.

In this video we look in more depth at our Vitamins blood test, covering folate (B9), vitamin B12 and vitamin D. It is possible to fall short on these even with a reasonably balanced diet — absorption matters as much as intake.

Vitamin D is commonly low in the UK over winter. B12 deficiency is more likely in people following a vegan diet, older adults, and those taking long-term proton pump inhibitors or metformin. Folate and B12 are best checked together, since high-dose folic acid can mask a B12 deficiency while nerve damage continues.

Browse our current range of home blood tests and DNA tests. All results are reviewed by our clinical team, which includes GPhC-registered independent prescribers, with medical oversight from our doctor, Dr Abdullah.
