Welcome to one of our Rightangled Test Explainers.

In this video we look in more depth at our Prostate Health blood test, why prostate health is worth keeping an eye on, and the process from ordering through to reviewing your results online.

The test measures prostate specific antigen (PSA). It is worth understanding what that does and does not tell you: PSA can be raised for reasons entirely unrelated to cancer, including benign prostatic enlargement, urinary infection, recent ejaculation and vigorous exercise. Equally, a normal PSA does not completely exclude prostate cancer. This is why PSA results always need clinical interpretation rather than being read alone.

See your GP if you have urinary symptoms such as needing to urinate more often, difficulty starting, a weak flow, or getting up frequently at night — and particularly if you have a family history of prostate cancer, or are of Black African or Caribbean heritage, as risk is higher in these groups.

Browse our current range of home blood tests and our benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment range. All results are reviewed by our clinical team, which includes GPhC-registered independent prescribers, with medical oversight from our doctor, Dr Abdullah.
