    Más información sobre Saxenda

    • 1. What is Saxenda?

    • 2. How does Saxenda work?

    • 3. How is Saxenda used?

    • 4. Saxenda dosing

Saxenda is a weight loss treatment that contains the active ingredient Liraglutide. It helps you lose weight and it is FDA approved for obesity. It’s injected into the body each day and the course of treatment works best when it’s combined with a reduced-calorie diet and an increased exercise program.

    - Your body naturally produces an appetite hormone known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that helps to regulate your hunger

    - Saxenda works like GLP-1 by regulating your appetite, which can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight

Saxenda is indicated as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management in adult patients with an initial Body Mass Index (BMI) of

    • ≥30 kg/m² (obeseity), or

    • ≥27 kg/m² to <30 kg/m² (overweight)

In the presence of at least one weight-related comorbidity such as dysglycaemia (pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus), hypertension, dyslipidemia or obstructive sleep apnoea. Treatment with Saxenda should be discontinued after 12 weeks on the 3.0 mg/day dose if you have not lost at least 5% of your initial body weight.

You will begin your treatment by setting the Saxenda dose at 0.6mg and increasing it by 0.6mg week over week over the first four weeks of treatment. From week five you’ll take the full 3mg dose (but no more). The pens are all pre-filled too, making it easier to use the correct dose.

    - Week 1: 0.6mg once daily for 7 days
    - Week 2: 1.2mg once daily for 7 days
    - Week 3: 1.8mg once daily for 7 days
    - Week 4: 2.4mg once daily for 7 days
    - Week 5 onwards: 3.0mg once daily

    How to use Saxenda?

    - Inject your dose under the skin (subcutaneously) in your stomach area (abdomen), upper leg (thigh), or upper arm. Do not inject into a vein or a muscle.

    - Change (rotate) your injection sites within the area you choose, in order to reduce your risk of getting lumps under the skin. Do not use the same site for each injection.

How long does Saxenda take to work?

Saxenda will start working straight away and will help reduce your appetite within a few days. You will be able to see weight loss results within the first few months of treatment.

After about 17 weeks of using Saxenda, you can expect to lose at least 5% of your starting weight. If you have not, contact your healthcare professional to try an alternative treatment.

    How to store Saxenda?

Try to store it in a refrigerator (2°C–8°C) and do not freeze it by storing it away from the freezer compartment.
Keep the cap on the pen in order to protect it from light.

    Possible side effect?

Saxenda is considered a safe agent to lose weight if used as directed. In general, the most common side effect is related to gastrointestinal reactions.

What are the contraindications of Saxenda?

If you have hypersensitivity to liraglutide or to any of the excipients listed below:
    Disodium phosphate dihydrate
    Propylene glycol
    Hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment)
    Sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment)

If you are allergic to any of the above excipients, you must avoid using Saxenda.
