    Is an injectable drug used to treat type 2 diabetes and it has a weight loss effect. It contains a GLP-1 agonist, which means it mimics a naturally produced hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). This hormone is partly responsible for regulating hunger. In the UK Ozempic use for weight loss is not licensed.

    Ozempic is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Do not inject it into a vein or muscle. The best places to give the injection are the front of your thighs, the front of your waist (abdomen), or your upper arm.

    It is a once-weekly injection, and the starting dose is

    - 0.25 mg for 4 weeks
    - Then 0.50 mg for 4 weeks
    - Then 1 mg for 4 weeks


    Dose titration is based on your healthcare professional recommendation.

    If you forgot to inject a dose and:

    • It is 5 days or less since you should have used Ozempic, use it as soon as you remember. Then inject your next dose as usual on your scheduled day.

    • It is more than 5 days since you should have used Ozempic, skip the missed dose. Then inject your next dose as usual on your scheduled day.

    Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

    What is GLP-1?

    GLP- 1 is short for glucagon-like peptide 1 hormone. In the body, this hormone controls blood sugar levels, it also has an effect in decreasing cravings which leads to weight loss. Ozempic is a drug that mimics the action of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).

    How does Ozempic work?

    Ozempic works by binding to GLP-1 receptors and stimulates insulin release when you need it. It helps lower your blood sugar. It also helps to reduce the food leaving your stomach which leads to weight loss and controlling your blood sugar.

    How to store Ozempic?

    Before opening:
    Store in a refrigerator (2 °C–8 °C). Do not freeze. Keep away from the cooling element. Protect from light.

    During use:
    • You can keep the pen for 6 weeks when stored at a temperature below 30 °C or in a refrigerator (2 °C–8 °C) away from the cooling element. Do not freeze Ozempic and do not use it if it has been frozen.

    • When you are not using the pen, keep the pen cap on in order to protect it from light. Do not use this medicine if you notice that the solution is not clear and colorless or almost colorless.

    Possible side effect?

    Ozempic is considered a safe agent if used as directed. In general, the most common side effect is related to gastrointestinal reactions.
