Buccastem M tablets are used to treat nausea and vomiting that are associated with migraine. This medicine helps by easing your feelings of nausea. 

These tablets contain prochlorperazine maleate. Prochlorperazine belongs to a large group of drugs known as phenothiazines, which have a variety of effects.


1. What is it used for?

• Used for treating nausea and vomiting associated with migraines

2. How do you take it?

• Do not chew or swallow this tablet
• You can take up to 1 or 2 tablets twice a day, for a maximum of two days
• These tablets are best taken after meals
• Do not drink alcohol when taking this medicine
• You would need to place this tablet high up along your top gum, and under the upper lip on either side of your mouth
• You should not move this tablet around your mouth with the tongue because this might cause the tablet to dissolve too quickly
• This tablet might cause you to be more sensitive to sunlight
• Buccastem M tablets can make you sleepy, so you should avoid driving

3. Who is it suitable for?

• Not suitable for children
• Not suitable if you are pregnant
• Not suitable for anyone under the age of 18
• Not suitable for anyone with blood problems
• Not suitable if you have problems with your liver
• Not suitable If you have problems with your prostate gland

4. Poissible side effects?

• Inability to sleep (insomnia)
• Low blood pressure

    Buccastem M 3mg Tablets help to reduce symptoms of nausea at the first stage of a migraine attack.

    These tablets give long lasting relief from nausea and vomiting, for up to 12 hours.

    Adults 18 years and over: Place the tablet under the upper lip, along the upper gum and allow it to dissolve slowly and fully. The tablet will take 1 to 2 hours to dissolve completely. Do not chew or swallow the tablet. If two tablets are needed, the second tablet should be placed on the top gum adjacent to the first.

    - Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children
    - Keep the blisters in the outer carton in order to protect from light
    - This medicinal product does not require any special temperature storage condition
    - Do not use after the expiry date (EXP month/year) shown on the outer carton and blister, the expiry date refers to the last day of that month

    About Migraines

    1. About Migraines

    A migraine is a form of headache, but an extreme variant of it which causes a throbbing feeling around the entire head. Having a migraine often comes accompanied with other symptoms such as nausea, sensitivity to light and blurred vision from time to time.

    Migraines are extremely common, affecting 1 in every 5 women, and 1 in every 15 men, starting in both genders' adulthood phase. There are different variants of a migraine, some consisting of migraines without the headache, migraines w/ warning signs and migraines without warning signs. These warning signs include nausea, vomiting, increased sensitivity to light and sound.

    2. What causes Migraine?

    Although there is no specific reason as to why migraines occur, there are many common factors in migraine sufferers that could be a contributing factor to the condition. These include;

    • Stress
    • Tiredness
    • Starting a period
    • Hunger
    • Certain foods and drinks

    3. How can a Migraine be managed?

    The NHS states that there are four different treatment options for migraine sufferers. These include avoiding the trigger factors, medication - including pain-relieving medication to change the pressure on blood vessels, preventative treatment (taking medication daily to reduce the amount of migraine attacks and non-medication therapies, such as biofeedback, yoga, acupuncture, relaxation techniques, herbal remedies and goggles. They recommend you speak to your doctor or neurologist to get help for managing migraines.
