Aciclovir is a prescription only treatment. It is used to treat herpes and other viral infections that are caused by herpes.

Aciclovir works by decreasing the pain and speeding up the healing process of blisters or sores, in people with varicella or chickenpox, herpes zoster or shingles, and first-time or repeat outbreaks of genital herpes. It is also used to prevent an outbreak of genital herpes in people who have been infected with the virus. Acliclovir tablets should not be used as a treatment for herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in newborns and babies up to 3 months old. They should also not be used to treat severe HSV infections in children with a low resistance to disease.

• You would be able to take Aciclovir with or without food.
• This tablet can be harmful to the kidneys when dehydrated.
• There is no cure for herpes and the virus stay in your body, taking Aciclovir can stop or relieve the uncomfortable symptoms.
• You should take Aciclovir at the same time each day.
